Cinsaut is an ancient variety of traditional selection originating from the south of France. The vines are characterized by medium vigor and a tendency for shoots to lodge, which requires special trellising and short pruning. The variety is distinguished by late bud break.

Bunches are medium to large in size with medium density. Berries are large, oval, dark blue in color with a waxy bloom and thin skin. The flesh is fleshy and juicy.

The variety possesses high resistance to heat and drought, but has weak winter hardiness. Low resistance to downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola), powdery mildew (Oidium), rots, and Esca is noted. Wines from this variety have low tannin content and pronounced floral and berry notes.
