Sheegene-20
ActiveVitis vinifera L. · Common grape vine
TIMOTHY SHEEHAN
10 August 2026
The variety belongs to the late category: the period from bud break to technical maturity of the berries is 150–155 days with a sum of active temperatures of 3100–3200°C. The vines are characterized by medium vigor. The leaves are medium-sized, rounded, predominantly five-lobed, with arachnoid pubescence on the underside and a lyrate petiolar sinus.
The clusters are conical or cylindro-conical in shape. The berries are medium-sized, rounded, golden-yellow in color. The variety shows high sensitivity to fungal diseases such as oidium and botrytis, and due to its early start of vegetation, it is prone to the risk of damage by spring frosts.
Originating from the Loire Valley in France, it is genetically related to the Savagnin variety and has been known since the 16th century. It has an exceptional winemaking purpose, allowing for the production of dry, sparkling, dessert, and fortified wines due to its high level of acidity.
