The variety is a mutant of the red variety Trousseau. Historically, it was widespread in the Charente region of France, where it was considered a quality variety. In 2014, it was included in the specification for IGP Charentais wines.

Synonyms for the variety are Gray Riesling, Gris de Salces, and Terret d'Afrique. Due to the external similarity of the berry color to Pinot gris and the erroneous use of the name Gray Riesling, confusion in identifying the variety occurred in the past.

The variety belongs to technical grape varieties for the production of white wines. Detailed agronomic characteristics and data on disease resistance are not presented in the sources.
