The variety is a gray mutation of the red wine grape Trousseau and has an ancient origin from the Jura region in France. In the past, it was widespread in various regions of France, including Charente. In the USA, the variety was historically mistakenly called Gray Riesling, despite the lack of a genetic connection to the true Riesling.
This grape belongs to wine varieties and is intended for winemaking. In a cool climate, the berries allow for the production of wines with aromas of peach, melon, and honeysuckle. Morphologically, the variety has similarities to Pinot gris in the shape of the clusters and the grayish color of the berry skin.
