The variety is a natural pink mutation of the Clairette grape, known since the beginning of the 19th century. Clone number 1003 is certified for viticulture. The plant is characterized by large clusters and medium-sized berries; it matures late, approximately 4–4.5 weeks after the Chasselas variety.

The variety possesses higher yields compared to the base white variety and is considered more aromatic. It is sensitive to downy mildew and exhibits its best qualities in a warm climate. Its primary purpose is winemaking, sometimes used in blends with the white Clairette variety.
