The vegetation period is the time from mass emergence to the technical maturity of the head, which determines the harvest timing and the storage quality of the variety. The duration of the vegetation period is a defining varietal trait, based on which early-maturing (up to 100 days), mid-maturing (105–145 days), and late-maturing (130–180 days) varieties are distinguished.
