The branching trait in sunflowers is classified by two key parameters: the location of branching on the main stem, which can be basal, apical, or continuous, and the type of lateral shoots, which vary from weak and short to vigorous. In commercial production, single-headed forms are preferred, as branching complicates mechanized harvesting and reduces the uniformity of seed ripening.
