For tall cultivars, the strength of the flower stalk becomes a critically important characteristic, as it must support heavy inflorescences with 20–26 buds without lodging.

This trait is closely linked to agronomic factors: the size of the planting material, moisture availability, and temperature conditions. Adverse conditions, such as high temperatures with water deficiency or poor drainage, cause the flower stalks to become stunted and reduce plant height relative to the cultivar standard.
