Freezing tolerance — Sand oat
Avena strigosa Schreb.
Sand oat has low resistance to negative temperatures, dying at values below –7 °C. This biological property is used in agronomy for the natural termination of crop vegetation without additional treatment.

Sand oat is characterized by a poor ability to withstand low temperatures during the winter period. When the temperature drops below –7 °C, the plants die, which limits the possibilities for cultivating the crop in regions with severe winters.

The natural death of plants under the influence of low temperatures allows for the completion of the vegetation cycle without the use of herbicides or mechanical incorporation of plant residues.
