Verbena × hybrida exhibits high sensitivity to severe frost, which leads to the death of the above-ground parts of the plant. With the onset of sustained frost, vegetation ceases and the plants die unless they have been moved to protected conditions with a temperature of at least +2°C.
The plant is capable of tolerating only brief, light frosts, while retaining the ability to continue growth and flowering during the autumn period. In temperate climates, the crop is grown primarily as an annual due to its inability to survive winter soil freezing.
