A key aspect of commercial chrysanthemum cultivation is the management of the light regime, as it is a short-day plant. Artificial regulation of day and night length using blackout and supplemental lighting systems allows for the initiation of flowering at any time of the year and reduces the production cycle to 3.5–5 months.

In greenhouse conditions, precision climate control is critical: maintaining temperatures within 15–28°C and regulating air humidity is necessary to avoid plant stress and the development of pathogens such as Botrytis. CO2 level regulation is used in greenhouses to stimulate photosynthesis.

The transition to substrate-based growing systems using peat mixtures or mineral wool makes it possible to eliminate soil-borne pathogens such as Fusarium and Pythium, as well as to ensure precise fertigation for controlling stem and inflorescence quality. Intensive methods involve strictly regulated pinching and disbudding to obtain uniform batches of produce.
