The shrub reaches a height of 1.5–3 meters and has a dense, spreading crown. The leaves are dark green and shiny in summer, turning red in autumn. Flowering occurs in May with white or pinkish inflorescences; the variety is self-fertile.
The fruits are blue-black berries weighing 1.0–1.5 g, collected in corymbose inflorescences of 20–30 pieces. Ripening occurs in August – September. The berries are juicy, have a sweet-tart taste, and have a high content of vitamin C, anthocyanins, and antioxidants.
The plant has high winter hardiness, withstanding frosts down to -30...-35°C, and is resistant to diseases, pests, and temperature fluctuations. Fruiting begins in the 2–3rd year after planting.
