The variety is a low-growing creeping densely branched shrub with a prostrate growth habit. At maturity, the plant reaches a height of 15–30 cm with a shrub width of about 90 cm.
Leaves are elliptical, glossy, finely serrated, bright green in summer and red or orange in autumn. In spring, the plant blooms with small white flowers and forms edible dark purple fruits with a tart taste.
The plant possesses high winter hardiness (USDA zones 3–9), is low-maintenance, adapts well to various soil types, drought conditions, and salt exposure. It possesses relative resistance to deer browsing.
