Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is a historical regional cultivar, reaching a height of about 1.60 meters. The plant has a long stem and forms a rosette of leaves at the top. The stem and curly leaves are colored in purple-green or purple-brown tones, which is due to the high anthocyanin content.

The plant is a late-maturing or winter variety, with harvesting beginning in September. It is characterized by a mild flavor, which allows for harvesting before the onset of frost. Due to the great height and weight of the plant in the second year of life during seed propagation, the variety requires additional support to prevent stem breakage.

The crop was traditionally used as a multipurpose plant: the lower leaves were used for animal feed, the top was used for human consumption, and the woody stem was used as fuel or as a support for other needs. The variety is considered relatively undemanding, but requires protection from pests characteristic of all cabbage species.
