Mil Folhas represents a traditional Portuguese perennial vegetable crop that has been preserved as a local landrace. The plant is capable of remaining in the field for several years and is propagated both by seeds and vegetatively through cuttings.

The plant possesses strong branching and forms leaf rosettes on stems, often having a main lodging stem with secondary shoots. The leaves of the plant are relatively narrow and short, often with purple pigmentation on the petioles and leaf blades. The crop is valued for the tenderness and sweetish taste of the leaves, which are used in cooking.
