Nero fiorentino is an ancient local ecotype of kale. The plant has a bushy palm-like habit and reaches a height of 80–100 cm to one and a half meters.

The leaf blades are long and narrow, colored dark green with a bluish tint, and the leaf surface is heavily blistered. The variety is characterized by high productivity and good cold resistance.

This ecotype is traditionally used for preparing soups, stews, and other vegetable dishes, being an essential component of the Italian ribollita soup.
