The name ABATE refers to a traditional local chestnut variety from the Campania region of Italy. This ecotype is considered part of the Marrone group and does not have an independent agronomic description of the tree's own characteristics.

The fruits of this ecotype are characterized by large size, dense flesh texture, and a sweet taste due to high glucose content. Historically, they have been used in cooking and for the production of flour.
