The variety Bouche de Clos originates from the northern part of the Ardèche department, France. It is a traditional variety belonging to the Castanea sativa group, rather than a modern breeding hybrid.

The fruits have a striped brownish-reddish color and a small hilum. In size, they are inferior to the Bouche Rouge variety, however, they are valued for their distinct sweet taste and suitability for the production of glazed chestnuts. The variety is distinguished by good storage capacity.

The plant possesses adaptation to local growing conditions, however, it is characterized by irregular bearing. The variety is grown as a fruit crop for fresh consumption and industrial processing.
