The Bournette (CA 112) variety is an interspecific hybrid of Castanea sativa and Castanea crenata. The tree has medium vigor, a spreading crown, and enters fruiting 3–4 years after planting.

The variety is early to mid-early, with fruit ripening occurring in the period from late September to early October. The fruits are elliptical in shape, large to very large, and possess moderately sweet flesh and a chestnut aroma.

The plant is resistant to Phytophthora, but susceptible to Dryocosmus kuriphilus and Cryphonectria parasitica. The variety is valued for its high-quality and abundant pollen, which allows it to be used as a pollinator for other varieties.
