Camisella is not a breeding variety, but an ecotype of folk selection that formed in the vicinity of the town of Patrica in the province of Frosinone. It is a traditional genetic resource that has been preserved for centuries by local farmers in traditional groves.
The fruits of this chestnut are characterized by their small size and excellent peeling quality, making them popular for preparing roasted chestnuts. The produce is traditionally used for personal consumption and local sale, and is also an important component of local gastronomic festivals.
