Variety description

10 August 2026

The CARDACCIO variety belongs to traditional genotypes historically developed in Central Italy. It was selected for specialized plantations due to valuable wood characteristics that make it suitable for carpentry and building construction.

Important economic traits of the variety include a rapid growth rate and the absence of "ring shake" — a common wood defect in chestnut. This form was propagated primarily by grafting or seeds and is today often considered in the context of preserving the genetic diversity of the species.
