Fruits of this type belong to the marron category, are characterized by a shiny brown pericarp with visible stripes, and are easy to peel. Harvesting is traditionally carried out in September and October.

Plants are adapted to the volcanic soils of the Basilicata region. When cultivated for fruit, the trees reach a height of about 18 meters. As with other representatives of the species, this type of chestnut is susceptible to pests, such as the chestnut gall wasp, and diseases, including chestnut blight and ink disease.
