This material is used exclusively as a rootstock for growing seedlings, and not as a fruit crop for nut harvesting. The term "franc" in Romanian pomology indicates the origin of the material via seeds from wild forms or seedlings of the corresponding species.

Given that "Castan franc" is a generative rootstock, characteristics such as maturity group, plant height, product quality, or disease resistance are not determined for it.
