Castanea sativa Mill. Sweet chestnut · Fruit crops

Variety description

10 August 2026

The product is a mixture of fruits, where at least 90% is the Palummina cultivar, and the remainder consists of other local varieties, in particular Verdola. The cultivation of these chestnuts has a centuries-old history.

The fruits are small-to-medium or medium in size, with a rounded shape with a flat bottom side and a convex base. The thin, intensely brown skin easily separates from the white, crunchy flesh.

The chestnuts are used fresh, dried, or for flour production. The plants are adapted to the regional conditions and are resistant to fungal diseases. Yield is limited by standards to 25 kg per tree and 3 tonnes per hectare.
