The variety Carrarese, also known as Carpinese, belongs to local varieties formed through traditional selection. The nuts have a light glossy brown color without stripes. The skin of the fruit is difficult to remove. The variety is characterized by stable yields without sharp annual fluctuations.

The plant possesses high resistance to chestnut blight, but is susceptible to the Oriental chestnut gall wasp. The variety tolerates cold winters, but exhibits high sensitivity to wind loads.
