ActiveCastanea sativa Mill. · Sweet chestnut
PEDRO URQUIJO LANDALUCE
10 August 2026
The tree of this variety is vigorous and productive, with a crown that acquires a rounded shape over time. Leaves flush early or mid-season, and the receptivity period of female flowers occurs from late June to early July.
The variety is astaminous, meaning it has underdeveloped stamens and does not produce viable pollen, therefore pollinator trees are required for fruit set. Fruiting may be irregular.
The fruits are of the "marrone" type, have a small or medium size, a characteristic triangular shape and a reddish hue that quickly dulls after falling. Traditionally, the variety is grown in France, often in proximity to the "Belle Epine" variety.
