The GIOVIASCA DI BOBBIO PELLICE variety belongs to a group of ancient local clones historically cultivated in the mountainous areas of the Western Alps. Trees of this variety are distinguished by their longevity, with specimens aged 120–150 years.
The fruits of the variety are characterized by large size and are valued for their taste qualities and suitability for confectionery processing. The variety is self-sterile and requires the presence of pollinator varieties for fruiting.
The variety is part of a group of closely related genetically distinct Gioviasca varieties adapted to the conditions of specific valleys in Piedmont and is being actively studied within the framework of biodiversity conservation projects.
