The variety «Loura» (or «Louro») is a product of folk selection and clonal selection of traditional populations in Spain. The tree is considered versatile, as its fruits are suitable for fresh market sale, and the plant itself is valued for the quality of its wood.

The plant possesses good rooting ability, which allows it to be used for producing own-rooted seedlings, including through in vitro methods. The variety is being studied within breeding programs for resistance to ink disease, which affects the root system, and is adapted to specific canopy training systems.
