The variety is an ancient landrace and not a product of modern breeding. Genetically it belongs to the Franco-Italian group and is most common in the regions of Lugo, Mariña de Lugo and Fragas do Eume. The fruits are characterized by a very large size, dark brown color and a creamy white kernel color.
When grown with mycorrhiza, the tree is capable of reaching 8 meters in height and 6 meters in crown width. Fruiting begins approximately in the 4th year after planting. The variety is cross-pollinating and is traditionally used for boiling or roasting.
