The medium-sized tree reaches 10–15 meters in height and is characterized by high vigor and a developed crown. The variety is a product of centuries of local selection and is adapted to the conditions of hilly terrain.

The fruits are valued for their taste and aromatic properties. The main direction of use for the harvest is processing into chestnut flour, known as farina di neccio, which traditionally served as an important food product in the mountain regions of Italy.
