The variety is a hybrid of Castanea sativa and Castanea crenata. The medium-sized tree reaches 11–20 m in height, has an upright habit and a compact crown. The nuts are large, reddish-brown, triangular or elliptical in shape, and have good keeping quality.

The variety is mid-season, with harvest beginning from the second week of October. Fruiting of grafted seedlings begins in the 4–5th year. The plant is resistant to Phytophthora root rot, chestnut blight, leaf rust, and wind, withstands frosts down to -21°C, but is sensitive to late spring frosts.

The variety is valued as a good pollinator for other chestnuts and is self-fertile. Due to good graft compatibility, it is often used as a rootstock.
