The variety is an interspecific hybrid of Castanea sativa and Castanea crenata. The tree is characterized by vigorous growth and high resistance to ink disease (Phytophthora spp.), which makes it sought after as a rootstock in nurseries and commercial orchards. It can also be used as a pollinator for other varieties.
The fruits mature late, in the first half of October. The nuts are large, mahogany-colored, have good taste qualities, are easy to peel, and are suitable for long-term storage. The plant is able to withstand temperatures below 10 °C.
