The Merle variety, also known as Gros Merle, belongs to late-maturing cultivars. The fruits are of medium size; typically, two to three nuts are formed within a single burr.

The plant is of the long-staminate flowering type. The variety is self-incompatible, therefore the presence of pollinator trees is necessary to obtain a full yield.
