The Nero tree is characterized by vigorous growth and a spherical crown, morphologically similar to the Nules variety. Shoots are predominantly thornless, leaves are lanceolate, light green in color, without a winged petiole. Fruits are large, weighing 95–110 g, oblate in shape with a thin orange peel that separates easily from the tender, juicy pulp.

The variety is early and begins fruiting 15–20 days earlier than the parent variety Nules. The plant is male and female sterile, due to which it does not form seeds and does not provoke their appearance in neighboring varieties. The fruits tolerate degreening well, however, if overripe on the tree, the juice may crystallize.
