The Gillette tree has vigorous growth and a compact or dense crown. Large, thick, cup-shaped leaves, resembling grapefruit foliage, are typically clustered at the tips of upright branches.

The fruits are large, spherical in shape, with a well-developed but non-protruding navel. The peel is thick and moderately pebbled. The flesh is orange in color, seedless, and similar in taste and texture to the Washington Navel variety.

The variety is classified as very early: under Riverside conditions, ripening occurs in December-January, which is ten days earlier than Washington Navel. Productivity is moderate; the fruits hold well on the tree after reaching maturity.
