Trees of the HAMLIN variety are characterized as medium-sized; when grown in containers, their height is 1.5–1.8 m. The variety is considered one of the most cold-hardy among oranges.

Fruits weighing 150–240 g have a round or slightly flattened shape. The skin is orange, smooth, and shiny. The juicy, fine-grained flesh has a dessert taste with low acidity. The fruits usually contain from 2 to 5 seeds or are seedless.

The variety is widely used in commercial production as a juice crop, and is also popular for cultivation in home conditions and greenhouses due to its compactness.
