These plants have ancient origins and were historically grown for ornamental purposes. Externally, the trees are characterized by vigorous growth and long branches that lignify quickly.

The fruits of the hybrids combine the traits of both parents, being distinguished by their large size, thick bumpy rind with an intense aroma of essential oils, and acidic pulp. The group as a whole is susceptible to fungal diseases, such as mal secco.
