The plant is a vine reaching 2 meters in height. Leaves are predominantly ternate, green; entire leaves are sometimes encountered. Large flowers 13–15 cm in diameter consist of 6 broad elliptical sepals, white with a distinct violet or reddish-pink stripe in the center and brown anthers. Fruits are small, with a long feathery beak.

The variety blooms from July to September; repeat flowering is also noted in late spring or early summer. Sunny or semi-shaded areas with moderate soil moisture are preferred for cultivation. The plant is sensitive to severe frosts and requires covering for the winter. Skin irritation is possible upon contact with parts of the plant, as it is mildly poisonous. The primary use is vertical landscaping.
