Variety description

The variety is a perennial herbaceous climber of the Integrifolia group. The shoots reach 1.0–1.5 m in length and do not cling to supports on their own. When grown without support, the plant spreads along the ground, forming a carpet 20–30 cm high; if a support is provided, it requires tying.

The flowers are large, 10–13 cm in diameter, open, upward-facing, and consist of 5–6 velvety elliptical sepals of a dark purple color with a purple stripe down the center and yellow anthers. The leaves are entire, elongated, matte, green, with a purple tint on young growth.

The plant is frost-hardy (USDA zone 4, down to -29...-34 °C). Flowering is abundant from June to mid-August, with possible less intense repeat flowering in autumn. It belongs to pruning group 3, requiring hard pruning in spring.
