The plant belongs to the Integrifolia group of clematis and reaches a height of 1–2 meters. The shrubby growth habit implies that the shoots do not cling to supports independently but can lean against them. The flowers consist of 4–6 elliptical sepals with a dark stripe in the center and characteristic curling; the anthers of the stamens are yellow on greenish-cream filaments.

The variety is characterized by pruning group 3, in which shoots are removed to ground level in spring or stumps 5–10 cm high are left. The plant possesses high winter hardiness down to -34 °C and resistance to heavy soils. It is suitable for use as a groundcover plant, as well as for cultivation in containers and tubs.
