The variety is a fast-growing shrub with an umbrella-shaped or dome-shaped crown. The leaves are large, rounded or elliptical; when unfurling, they have a rich burgundy-red color, which is maintained in sunny locations, and may acquire a greenish-burgundy shade by the end of summer.

Flowering is early, occurring in February–April, with decorative reddish male catkins. The fruits are of medium size, slightly elongated in shape, and ripen in September–October. They are gathered in clusters of 2–5 pieces, have a hard shell, and a kernel yield of about 46–48%.

The variety possesses frost resistance down to -24 °C and disease resistance. The plant is not fully self-fertile, therefore it requires planting of pollinator varieties for fruiting. It can independently act as a pollinator for other varieties of Corylus.
