Tapparona, also known as Tapparona di San Colombano, is a landrace of Corylus avellana, traditionally grown in the Stura valley and the surroundings of Chiavari. The plant is a perennial shrub whose fruits are characterized by an elongated and flattened shape.
The variety is part of the region's historical cultural heritage and is used primarily in the confectionery industry and for the production of sauces. As part of scientific studies on genetic diversity, samples of the variety were tested for the absence of specific viruses.
