The perennial herbaceous plant reaches a height of 80 to 150 cm, in individual cases up to 173 cm. The crop is characterized by the absence or an extremely small number of thorns on the leaves and stems.

The period from sowing to harvest is 65 to 180 days. The plant is adapted to a temperate climate, withstands temperatures down to +6°C, and requires a protected location in northern regions.

The tender and wide petioles are consumed as food. The variety is also used as an ornamental plant for decorating the plot and creating dried flower bouquets.
