The Hostyn variety belongs to the ryegrass type and was obtained as a result of crossing Lolium multiflorum and Festuca pratensis. The plant has an upright growth habit, morphologically close to ryegrass.

The variety is characterized by an intermediate flowering time, early spring regrowth, and high winter hardiness. It shows resistance to rust, powdery mildew, and Drechslera leaf spot, and is noted for its longevity.

High nutritional value is ensured by good organic matter digestibility and sugar content. The variety is intended for silage harvesting, and for use in hayfield and pasture grass mixtures with cereals and legumes.
