The variety belongs to local Greek genotypes maintained at the National Fig Germplasm Repository in Kalamata. It is an officially registered fruit crop variety in Greece.

Scientific research on the variety focuses on the analysis of its genetic profile and biochemical composition. ASPRA POLIS fruits are characterized as some of the firmest among the studied varieties in the collection; the content of macronutrients and chlorogenic acid has also been confirmed.
