Variety description

10 August 2026

The name is applied to a wide range of green-yellow fig varieties and is used as a protected geographical indication for dried products from the Cilento region, for which the Dottato variety is predominantly used. These plants belong to ancient forms of folk selection.

Fruits of this group are characterized by a sweet taste and tender flesh of an amber or pinkish hue, possessing high suitability for drying, during which the skin retains a yellow-white color. The plants are demanding in terms of heat and require protection from low temperatures when grown outside of southern regions.

Varieties of the Fico Bianco group are susceptible to diseases typical for the crop, such as rust, leaf spots, and fig mosaic virus, especially under conditions of excessive humidity. The fruits are used for fresh consumption, drying, and processing for confectionery purposes.
