The variety AartDevil1, also known by the trade name Red Devil, is a compact upright shrub with a height of about 1.5 meters. The plant's foliage is dark green and glossy.

A distinctive feature of the variety is the flowers, which are unusually large for Hibiscus syriacus, of an intense red color with a red center. The variety is sterile and does not produce seeds, which prevents unwanted self-seeding.

The plant is intended for landscaping use: as a specimen plant, for creating hedges, for placement in flower beds, or for container cultivation.
