The Forner-Alcaide series is a group of hybrids created to improve the characteristics of citrus rootstocks. The main objectives of the IVIA breeding program are to ensure high tolerance to the citrus tristeza virus, resistance to Phytophthora and nematodes, and to improve plant adaptation to saline and calcareous soils, preventing chlorosis.
Despite the official status of a registered rootstock, detailed agronomic and morphological characteristics, such as the degree of influence on canopy growth or productivity, are practically not presented in open publications for number 42, unlike other hybrids of this series. The breeding objectives assume the induction of early entry into fruiting and the maintenance of high fruit quality in scions.
