The name Bluethroat is found in lists of Hydrangea macrophylla varieties and is associated with the Teller breeding group, created at the Federal Research Station for Horticulture in Wädenswil. Within this group, varieties are often given names corresponding to bird names, in line with representatives such as Blaumeise and Buchfink.
