Variety description

The plant is a compact, densely leafy shrub 100–125 cm in height. It has broad-ovate serrated dark green leaves. The inflorescences are large, spherical, mophead type.

Flowers are predominantly dark red or purple-crimson in color; on acidic soils, they may acquire violet or bluish shades. Flowering continues from June to July, in some cases until September. Winter hardiness is estimated as moderate, down to -12 °C.
